Vanessa Findlay is a director in Barton Deakin’s Canberra office where she advises and represents clients with an interest in Commonwealth Government matters.
She served as a Ministerial Chief of Staff in the Turnbull Government for the Minister for Tourism and International Education and Minister Assisting for Trade and Investment within the Trade portfolio. She also worked as a Ministerial Adviser in the previous Liberal Government of John Howard.
Along with her experience as a senior staffer at Parliament House, Vanessa has a history going back almost 20 years in the Australian Public Service where she attained the rank of First Assistant Secretary in the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources. At the department, she had a range of responsibilities in trade and market access, biosecurity and policy and strategy. She managed teams of up to 220 people and budgets of over $32 million.
As Senior Manager with the National Farmers’ Federation, Vanessa had oversight of all programs for water, climate change, land and native vegetation. She first worked in the area of government relations and lobbying in this role and was conferred an industry body award for excellence in influence and lobbying.
Vanessa holds a PhD in science and was the recipient of an Australian Cooperative Research Centre scholarship.
